Growling Parakeet!!!Help!?

ok my parakeet growls at my sometimes when hes on my finger and sometimes hes a sweetie bird and i think he might be sick or someting cause he got outside and ever since… hes been like growling…but hes the sweetest bird in the whole world and he hasnt change other than that…oh yeah and hes only about 2-3 weeks old.

He may just be imitating a sound he heard when he was outside. Growling isn’t a sign of being sick. He may be acting aggressive, or just expressing the fact that he’s feeling good–it depends on what kind of growl it is, some larger parrots do have “growling” sounds that actually mean they’re very, very happy. If it’s an unpleasant-sounding sound that he copied from somewhere, he may not realize what it really “means”.

If it was a threat you would expect to see posturing (crouching with beak open and forehead feathers sticking up) and even an actual bite. The fact that he’s still acting sweet toward you makes it unlikely that he’s trying to be aggressive. Just to be sure, though, check how you interact with him–if you allow him to be higher than you, on your head or shoulder, he’ll think he’s in charge, and may become aggressive when you challenge that. Otherwise, he probably is just imitating something.
