New ThunderCats Art Pictures Are Out
Followers of 1980s cartoons are filled with excitement over the news that a “ThunderCats” remake will debut on Cartoon Network later this year. Bleeding Cool indicates that Japanamation company Studio4°C has released new “ThunderCats” character art that includes Lion-O, Cheetara, Tygra and Panthro. Stripped down and darker is the brand new order for these anthropomorphic cats, said show producer Michael Jelenic to MTV News. They most likely took out a huge personal loan to create this cartoon.
All about the ‘Thundercats’
When it comes to sci-fi/fantasy tales for animated series, the 1980s “ThunderCats” comes to mind. The show was about cats that get off their home planet Thundera in just barely enough time before the planet is destroyed. The evils of Mumm-Ra and the Mutants of Plun-Darr are on the third Earth where the ThunderCats end up going. This is where the leader Lion-O leads them to go. Fairies will lead victims into addictions in this magic and technologically advanced world they go to. Even pandas will shed tears. With Cartoon Network’s “ThunderCats” remake, however, things can be pared back considerably, said Jelenic.
“It’s a pretty complicated back story that borrows from a lot of other sci-fi stuff, like ‘Superman’ and ‘Star Wars.’ In the (old) version, there’s something like three different planets involved, and they all converge onto one planet, and nobody’s really connected. I just wanted to bring that all together.”
Giving the characters a twist
Lion-O’s guardian Snarf could be the only character that isn’t recognizable. Jelenic explained the character can be a fearsome one instead. Jelenic’s last few years have been consumed with cartoons about Batman. The new “ThunderCats” will debut on Cartoon Network later in 2011.
