Bird House Feeders
It will be a good idea to encourage children to come up with a bird house feeder as a project. Aside from helping them develop their ability with wood works, you can teach the children about the birds that can be found in your area. You can use this as a bonding activity as well. The tools that you will need to assemble the materials are saw, handy drill and a hammer. Early on, you cannot determine the kind of birds that your bird feeders will attract when you set it up and this is why you should call the project a wild bird feeder. You can let your imagination run when planning on what your bird house feeder will would look like. You can build a simple bird feeder or you can make one with provisions for a nest box or a bird bath if you like. You can easily make your own bird feeder but it is necessary that you take note of a few things. When it comes to the plywood, see to it that it is about 5/8 to 3/4 inch thick. If the material that you will use is too thin, it may not stand well against natural elements such as rain and strong winds. The design of the roof of the bird feeder should be in a slating position to allow the water to fall to the ground. Your drainage will be in the form of a couple of holes drilled out from the bottom. Use also galvanized screws or nails as this will last longer and will not rust easily. Prior to hammering or screwing in the wooden panels, you want to line them with stick glue first and this will actually make the resulting bird feeder a whole lot stronger. It is up to you to design the external part of the feeder afterwards. In order not to discourage the birds, be mindful of the colors that you use. If you decide to paint the feeders, go for lead-free paints in light tones. It is important, however, to coat your bird house feeder with linseed oil. This will prevent the wood from drying out. If you opted to cover your wood project with paint, you will not need to coat it with linseed oil anymore. As much as possible, take caution when using electrical equipment and sharp objects. For this project, set up a meeting before the project is started. Bird feeders can be put up using three methods. It is possible to hang them up or place them near a window.
