Hamster help!!!! Is it ok to feed my hamster LM Animal Farms Vita-Vittles mouse and rat diet?
I got the wrong food by mistake at the pet shop today when i got my hamsters, instead of getting the LM Animal Farms Vita-Vittles Hamster Diet i got them the Mouse and Rat one. They r only babies should i even be giving them diet food?? i just want to make sure that giving them the mouse and rat diet wont kill them of make them sick, i can get the right food tomorrow pet land is closed rite now…
It won’t kill them but at the same time it doesn’t carry what they need nutrient-wise in it. Are the hamsters really young? If they are very young then their mother will give them what they need to eat. If they are eating solid foods on their own and have stopped nursing they can eat the hamster diet. Although it says diet on the package, this doesn’t mean “diet food” in the way we would think of it. The diet just means that it is what you feed them as their main source of nutrition. I would stay far away from seed mixes as these contain many fillers and too much fattening foods such as sunflower seeds which should only be given as a treat.
Try lab blocks (solid rectangles of food) such as Mazuri lab blocks found at PetSmart. These provide the proper nutrition for your hamster without all the fillers. If you want to keep a seed mix in their diet, try Ecotrition’s hamster diet. This along with the lab blocks (and the seeds should only be given in moderation- the majority of their diet should come from the lab blocks) is fine for a hamster.
