I have a 2 month old Quaker parrot which i got 6 days ago. It wont let me touch him. I did leave the cage open?
today for the first time and it did get out and walked around and then climbed up to the top of its cage. I managed to get it back into the cage by letting him step onto a stick and putting him back in. But i would like my parrot to step up to my hand and go on my shoulders and fly to me. What should i do to accomplish this ?
He’s still young so if you want to train him, now is the time. But he might have to get used to you a bit more first. You did only get him 6 days ago. One of my cockatiels moped for a week after we got her; she missed the other birds she lived with. Just be patient and keep trying to get him onto your hand and get him used to you. Maybe try hand-feeding him something special, such as cherrios or some plain rice or pasta.
