Teaching is called as the blessed profession just because it gives an opportunity to develop the next generation. Students always think their teacher is the most knowledgeable person; the reason behind this is the teaching process, as teaching process also enables learning. Education sector has always given the society with great eminent personalities and thus is responsible developing the society. However education sector itself has undergone various changes in the due course of time and teaching is no exception.

Team teaching actually means a team of teaching sharing the same group of students in the process of teaching. This concept was pioneered by William M. Alexander who is also known as ‘father of middle school’ in the year 1963. Team teaching also involves two or more teachers teaching at the same time or at different time to the same group of students. Today many grade level middle schools follow team teaching with various techniques, let’s have a look.

Conventional team teaching: In this process teachers share their task and responsibilities. For instance: while one teacher is busy teaching other, manages other techniques like a PPT (Power Point Presentation) while the teacher who is teaching aids this technique. The roles can be interchanged with the mutual consent.

Mutual team teaching: Mutual team teaching as the name suggest is processed with mutual consent of the teachers. Teachers design the concept together and exchange their ideas in front of the students; through this process students feel them as a part the teaching and learning process.

Supportive team teaching: Supportive team teaching takes place when one teacher takes up the responsibility of teaching while the other teacher takes up the responsibility of enhancing the grasping power, study skills and other follow up activities.

Analogous team teaching: This form distributes the students into two groups and each teacher teaches her own group. Such format of teaching is more or less used while project formations where students can work/study and teachers can just lend their helping hand if required.

Split team teaching: Spilt team teaching is similar to analogous team teaching. But in split team teaching the class is separated into smaller groups according to students’ caliber and then the teachers take extra efforts on those groups who require help in some subjects. While one teacher explains the concepts other teacher tries to take a follow-up.

Monitoring team teaching: Monitoring team teaching takes place when one teacher is busy teaching while other teacher keeps a keen eye on the students and their behavior.

Team teaching requires lots of planning in order to executive efficient team teaching. It is suggested that every team teaching members should meet at least 4 to 5 times per 45 minutes. Teachers that actively participate in recurrent mutual planning time shows positive attitude towards teaching profession. According to the research team teaching groups must not contain more 120 students. This helps in enhancing performance of the students and goes easier for the teachers too.
