Why does my cat knead soo much?? 10 points cat owners im really getting worried!!?

I have an 18 month old cat, and I only got him at 9 months old. I adopted him from a shelter, and they said the reason he came in is because his 1st owner (after birth place i think) couldnt afford him, 2nd owner had dog who he didnt get on with, and I am his 3rd owner. Basicly, he sleeps in his wicker cat carrier, with the door open of course, and in there is a folded up towel, and like this loose fabric, i think its like very thin cotton, and theres a lot of it, just so he’s snug and cosy, and he loves it. But every single night, he kneads it, while sucking it/holding it in his mouth! I dont know why! When i first got him, on the 1st day home he was kneading the air lol! But i dont get it…is this normal…my first cat used to knead my lap a little, but never the mouth thing! is he ok?! why does he do that?

This is because he was weaned when he was too young. Because of this, the habit has carried onto adult hood. There is no need to worry about this. It isn’t odd behavior and it isn’t because he is sick. This happens to many cats. Its okay. Kneading on something shows comfort around it. For example, he likes you, so he kneads on your lap. Same thing with his blanket. It just shows you it was worth buying that fluffy blanket, because he loves it so much!
