New Parakeet Questions?
I decided to get a parakeet and I have a few questions.
How many should I get? I want to get the parakeet to bond with me, and this will be my first keet.
Is the Hagen Vision http://www.petlanddiscounts.com/detail.asp?product_id=471604) a good cage?
Is Petland a good place to buy a parakeet?
If I buy 1 will it be lonely? I have to go to school from 8:30-3:00, and i will give it toys to keep itself busy, and when i get back i will spend time with it, as much as i can. Is that okay?
And should I get male or female?
Question # 1 – If you really want to bond with it, then only get 1 parakeet for now.
Question # 2 – The Hagan Vision cage that you are looking at is ok for up to 2 parakeets. One thing that you are looking for that this cage has is horizontal barr instead of vertical bars. What’s the difference you may ask yourself….the difference by having horizontal bars, it allow parakeets to have an easier time to move up and down the cage. Some parakeets struggle to go up and down the cage since it is harder for them to grab on to the bars with the small claws.
Question # 3 – Petland is good place to buy parakeets. Out of 16 parakeets that i own, 9 have come from the Petland store here in Laredo, TX. The only problems that I have with Petland, is that their parakeets are sometimes very young and are not ready to be sold as of yet.
Question # 4 – Hopefully if you buy it enough toys, it won’t be too lonely until you get home from school. You may want to leave the tv on so that there is sufficent noise in th background to keep it busy. Also, rememeber that most parakeets sleep during the day, so it shouldn’t be to lonely as it would probably be an idle time for it to get some sleep before you get home.
Question # 5 – Since you are only buying 1 parakeet, its a good idea to buy a male parakeet since they are a lot more friendly by themselves then female parakeets. Make sure you tell the Petland sales rep. that you want a male parakeet and not a female parakeet. This so so important, much more then what color it is or how pretty it looks.
trust me, if you don’t tell them that you want a male parakeet, they will try to give a female parakeet on purpose. This is done so that at night, they don’t have that many female birds in their store to start causing problems with their yaks noises and scar the other animals in the store. Besides, male parakeets sing more and are better in singers then the females.
