Good weaning food?
My alexandrine parrot is about 9 weeks old, and I want to start the weaning process. He is already pecking at his feet, preening, and chewing his chew toys. He has nibbled at some soaked warm peas and corn alredy. I’ve heard that you can buy “weaning food” made by bird companies. but i know that human soft foods are ok. are these safe for my bird?
I will introduce:
rice
baby food?
oatmeal (no milk)
peas and corn
whole what bread?
and can u suggest some more weaning food for my parrot? thanks!
rice if its cooked only, no dry rice ever. Bread is not the healthiest thing for birds, stay away from avocados and apple seeds, be careful some birds will ween to fresh veggies and go to nothing else. try the zupreem weening diet available at any good pet store. Some birds are very picky so get small bags and try different ones. soak in grape juice or somehing like that to get them interested. and sprinkle some down where they can pick it up while walking around, continually clean to keep from getting crop infection. And have fun.
