I want to treat my wodden cutting board and the instructions call for mineral oil. Is baby oil ok?
Or is there a better choice?
Baby oil has scent in it.
Mineral oil can be found in your drugstore and it is pretty cheap.
They sell it for people doing massage and as a cure for constipation.
It comes in two weights, thick and thin.
It is scent free, nontoxic and does not support bacterial growth.
You can use the leftovers for lubricating squeaky door hinges
Vegetable oils are not good because they support moulds and bacteria and go rancid after a while too.
There are a couple of other pure oils you could use like Tung oil or Walnut oil but they are speciality wood finishes and much more expensive, they are also drying oils that cure to a hard layer inside the wood.
