Lovebird Cockatiel

Lovebird Cockatiel
Lovebird or Cockatiel?

Hi guys. I am just wondering which bird I should get. A cockatiel or a Lovebird??? I have had birds before so I know the basic care But I am trying a different type of bird now so I don’t know their specific needs. What are specific needs for a cockatiel and for a love bird? What are the pros and cons of each?? And in your opinion which would you get A cockatiel or A Lovebird!!!!! Thanks everyone!!!!!!

I have had both and I like them both but I enjoy the lovebird more. Cockatiels are fun but it seems like lovebirds have more of a personality.

Lovebird pros andcons:
Pros: Smaller birds, so their usually cheaper. I got one from a breeder for 65$ and also a smaller cage is cheaper. They are very funny to watch and they love to put on a show. They are considered a parrot but they are usually dont speak. They are VERY pretty and their colors are vibrant. They love attention so they like to be out of the cage.

Cons: If you cant give them the attention they need, then you should prob. get 2 because they need entertained alot. The con of having 2 though is that there is a good possibility that they will bond to eachother and ignore you. So if you’re looking for a bird more to just look at them, then Id suggest to get 2. But it is just a myth that 2 lovebirds have to be together, its simply NOT true!!

Cockatiel pro and cons:
Pros: Bigger bird, so they can be a little more durable. They have fun personalities and can mimic sounds. I like to say they have “mohawks” because of the features on the top of their head. These birds can bond to more then 1 person and seem to not need as much of attention as lovebirds.

Cons: Dont get me wrong, they are very pretty birds, but if you are looking for vibrant colors such as blue, green etc. you wont get that with a cockatiel. They need a bigger cage, which means more money and they cost more.

Either way you go, I would deffinetly suggest that you look for breeders in your area. I got mine from a breeder (although I see her more as a “hobby” breeder, because she treats them like her own pets, unlike some breeders who just see their birds as money. Speak with somone and tell them what kind of bird you would like, I told the lady I knew that I wanted a cuddly love bird, and when she had a baby that was what I wanted she contacted me, instead of just giving me a bird that wouldnt fit my personalilty. Either bird you get, you’ll be happy because they are both great birds :)
