Can you keep two hen -chickens and one hen-duck together?
Well I’m planning on getting a female duckling. I already two VERY chill hens chickens. They don’t like perches barely in fact one of them can’t perch do to a defect in her leg. (she currently is under my care and might not make it. Due to not being able to walk.) Also I was thinking if I get the female duckling, should I get a drake?
The one hen that isn’t under my care is not aggressive to even bugs.
One female duck may be OK with 2 hens but would prefer her own company (ie more ducks). Hens speak hen language, ducks speak duck language. If a broody hen raises ducklings she very quickly stops trying to communicate with them for this reason.
It is very hard to sex ducklings less than 5-6 weeks old so be wary of buying a “female” duckling which may well not be female.
Do not get a drake, when he is mature he may attempt to mate with your hens, this distresses them terribly as you can imagine, it is rape basically as drake can be very persistant. If you one hen has bad legs this would be even worse.
My advice is don’t get ducks stick with your hens and give them a happy life as best you can, put perches in for them, it is best hens with leg/foot problems learn to perch early on, this helps their leg muscles.
