What can I use a rope for my two parakeet’s play gym?
Im thinking on buying a play gym for my parakeets but it doesn’t come with rope. What can I use thats bird friendly?
You can google ‘parrot safe rope’ and there will be seveal web sites that tell you what you can, and, cannot use.
Basically, you need to stick with natural fibers – that have no additives or anti-insect repellants. Cotton is best – but – try to find one that does not have a nylon core. The jute that folks use for making baskets is fine too – the correct jute will have no petroleum odor.
What ever you use – be sure to wash it first in hot water. This will remove any manufacturing contaminations and will let it shrink – and pre-shrinking will make your project look better.
