Buying an amazon or an african Grey parrot?
Im considering buying a parrot a have a cockatiel and would love a bigger bird just wondered on the amount of time the bird needs me home. I work 8 till 4.30 but my partner works shifts so is home sometimes when im not, my cockatiel is out his cage all the time while im home and he seems quite happy, quiet but happy. (probably a female) anyway if any 1 could let me know the best parrot for me i dont mind noise mess or damage lol but am newish too birds and love to experiance a parrot
African Grey’s may be out of your reach. Don’t feel bad, they’re out of reach for A LOT of people. They require about 4-6 hours a day and because they ar elike having a 2 year old for 50-60 years they are a challenge. They are prone to feather plucking, screaming, and behaivorial issues because they require such great care and attention. They easily get bored and it is jsut so much work. If you are new to birds, they aren’t the bird for you.
Amazons, perhaps a small amazon like a white front http://centralpets.com/animals/birds/parrots/prt5989.html or a Green Cheek amazom(Red front) http://centralpets.com/animals/birds/parrots/prt5693.html Would possibly be ok but even still they require at least 4 hours a day and then a good diet, and a big cage, and ltos of toys. But if you really wanted to get either or then go with a small amazon. Be careful though they have serious attitude and tend to become one person birds(Which is a bad thing)
I personally would suggest a medium ro large conure. Bigger than a cockatiel, with lovely personalities and cuddly!

They are a great bump up from cockatiels, lovebirds, and budgies but are not too overwhelming and have beautiful personalities. Just meet an amazon and a grey if possible to hear their noise level and talk to dedicated owners and leanr jsut how hard it is. Parrots are so complex you are better off to go up step by step and really get good at ti so all your birds are happy and healthy because larger parrots are no fun if they are screaming or biting. Just look into fi you really want an amazon ro grey but also think about the size difference for your cockatiel.
