KFC Double Down Is Trying To Do Away With The Bun, Again

In the last year, KFC tested in two markets the Double Down sandwich – it created talk that make people question whether or not it really existed. Well the truth if finally here, and on April 12th KFC stores will begin to carry the KFC Double Down. Although there is no word to how much it might cost, but if it were based on calories, you might need an instant payday loans no faxing just to try the thing. The KFC Double Down is reported as having 540 calories (460 for the grilled version) and very close to a full day’s sodium.

The KFC Double Down does away with the bun

The KFC Double Down and the Atkin’s diet are closely aligned with a basic idea. Take off the bun and add more meat. Bacon and Cheese placed between two chicken patties is how the KFC Double Down is supposed to work. The sandwich sounds incredibly decadent, and is targeted towards “customers that really want to fill up”. It is creating a ton of buzz even though it isn’t really new to bread-haters, low-carb dieters, and celiac.

The KFC Double Down and the calorie load

KFC reported that the Double Down will weigh 540 calories per serving for the original sandwich. For an adult on a 2,000 calorie-a-day diet (which, unless you are watching your calories, you probably aren’t), that is barely over 1/4 of their daily calories. However, the fat, sodium, and cholesterol load of these sandwiches come closer to 60-100% of the recommended daily allowance. That seems worse than getting rejected for online payday loans instant approval. This is, of course, assuming that the KFC Double Down estimates are correct.

Make sure to do the Double down math

Calorically, the Double Down deal sound pretty good. There are, however, those who doubt the estimates for the Double Down. So let’s do some math. There are 400 calories in 3 Colonel’s Crispy Strips. If we assume the chicken patties are the same weight as each strip, that’s 267 calories. Add another 100 calories with two slices of thinly sliced bacon. While KFC has not announced how much cheese in each Double Down, most pictures indicate it is at least four slices of cheese and/or cheese sauce. At an average of 90 calories per slice, that is at least another 360 calories. That means the KFC Double Stack, if we are being generous, could be 727 calories at a minimum. Still significantly better for you than a Big Mac.
