What kind of birds nest did I find?
It looks like a klump of hay about 4 inches in diameter with a lint lined opening about one inch in diameter. the opening was sealed with a disc like lid of hay. the inside is incredibly soft and incredibly tiny.
What is your country? What time of year was this? Was the nest low down in standing cereal crops (wheat, oats, barley, etc)? Or was the nest higher up in a hedge or bush? Is there signs of nibbled seeds and other edible food that a dormouse (or another species of mouse) has scatted at the foot of the nest sight? Have you seen a bird enter or leave the nest? Is there a sign of droppings, either from a bird or a rodent?
