Dog Steps – A Great Way To Help Your Pet Travel
Dog steps have become extremely useful for dogs that need a little help getting where they need to go. Steps for dogs are just a smaller version of our own steps and they serve the same purpose. The steps are to help dogs get up on things and down off of things without them having to over exert themselves and have to jump from high heights.
The purpose of the steps being made is pretty self explanatory. The steps were invented to help older dogs or dogs with disabilities are able to get around a lot easier. We all know that dogs suffer a lot of the same things humans do. Dogs can develop bad backs, arthritis, or hip complications. Instilling the dog to use the stairs will help with this problem tremendously. If you utilize the stair method when the dog is still a puppy you can prevent many future ailments.
The steps come in a range of different styles and sizes. You can get steep steps, which allow the dog to almost have to slide down them when they are jumping down. There are also, heavy duty steps which are good wherever you keep them. Regardless of what type of dog step you decide to purchase, make sure that it is the best choice for your particular breed of dog.
With everything good, there is always a downside. These steps are known to cost a pretty decent penny. Your basic dog steps can cost anywhere around $150.00-$200.00 depending of course upon where you purchase them. If you simply do not have the funds to purchase the step and your good with your hands. One thing you may consider is making the steps for your good pet. To make the steps the materials would end up running you around $35.00 which is a lot cheaper and more heartfelt then just simply buying the steps.
When making your own dog steps, you are going to need someone who is an experienced carpenter to help you. You will need about 3 2×4 pieces of wood and 2 more regular pieces of wood for the sides of the stair. You will need to have carpet or a material with cushion that you wish to put on the stairs. Make sure the stairs feel comfortable to you to ensure they will be utilized by your dog. You can even personalize the stairs by sewing in pieces of fabric that may spell out the dogs name the options are endless, and a lot cheaper to.
Make sure that you keep any small children away from the dog stairs. Kids will often find it fun to run up and down them, or pick them up and throw them. Remember the stairs are made of wood just like traditional stairs so your children can get hurt if they play with them.
The concept of the steps for dogs may be difficult for older dogs to grasp. They may need to be trained on how to use the stairs. So, if you find your dog still jumping up and down on your bed or couch, do not get mad at them. They have naturally developed a habit to do so. You need to train them that the new stairs do belong to them and how they need to use them.
Dog travel are an awesome thing to have. It prevents any late night vet visits and ensures your dogs safety. The stairs are a must have for any animal lover!
