Villa – The Top Discoveries

I thought I would take a break from my usual financial meanderings and write about a current trip my wife and I took to Spain. Like most Brits we craved for a bit of winter sun as well as the recent climate in the UK fairly very much pushed us onto a plane without having too significantly resistance.

Aston Villa are coming off a disappointing 3-0 loss to Liverpool, their fourth defeat on the trot. With just one win in their final 10 games, Villa are low on confidence. The game at Anfield brought their defensive frailties towards the fore, and also the squad had been particularly vulnerable to set-pieces. This was evident within the initial aim for the Reds on 13 minutes that resulted from a corner following Warnock conceded the ball to Kuyt.

After a little online looking we came across a rented villa, not via a major company but privately. I was a little hesitant at having to drive 45 minutes from Malaga Airport up the coast and into the hills but in reality the drive was so simple on one straight road I had nothing to fear.

Villan’s only scoring chance came quickly right after the break when Agbonlahor took a shot at objective off a Downing cross only to see Reina bring off a half-save cleared by Konchesky.

The villa we rented was perched on a sloping hillside just outside a delightful village named Alcaucin, described as a “chocolate box” village and absolutely lived up to its reputation. Below was Lake Vinuela a gorgeous blue ocean tucked in between the rolling hills. We already felt relaxed.

Two back-to-back wins have taken the Baggies to ninth position inside the table. After they went ahead on 32 minutes through a Tchoyi strike, Newcastle got an chance to equalise immediately following the interval but Carson was equalt to the process as he saved a Taylor shot.

Di Matteo’s squad were productive in defence even as they negated the twin threats of Carroll and Ameobi, and when Odemwingie scored on 71 minutes, he had secured the game for Albion. The striker got one more objective inside the dying stages and while Newcastle got a consolation in injury time, they were no match for the Baggies on the day.

3 smart bedrooms, 2 clean bathrooms, contemporary kitchen, lounge and diner all kitted out with dwelling comforts. not that we were going to spend a lot of time here but it was great to know we had been not going to slum it. Outside we had our personal private pool, brick BBQ location and sun terrace with amazing views down the hillside.

After 16 match weeks, Aston Villa are in 16th position in the points table, on the brink of the relegation zone, although West Brom have jumped as much as ninth.
