My bird is over 4years old, i would like to get her a company (another female) could i put a much younger bird with her?….also is there any other breeds that could be put with her?
A cockatiel should only be place with a cockatiel.
If your bird is socializing and happy, there is no reason to adopt another bird.
When you first move a new bird with your original bird, it is important to purchase another cage and put the other bird in it, side by side with your original bird’s cage. Make sure that they can see each other and chat. After a week or so, allow them to have free flight with each other. They should not bicker or pester each other, signs that they will not get along. Being able to perch in the same spot and preening are good factors in two getting along with each other. If there is no problem between the two, you can move them together. However, you still need to watch them. One may become more territorial over its space (remember to have the cage twice the size for two birds) and you may have to remove them. The new bird will have to live in its own cage, still being able to play with each other in free flight, but not being able to trespass each others cage.
