How do I make my Cockatoo stop screaming?
She has plenty of new toys in her cage, always has fresh water and food and I keep the tv on all day so she has “entertainment”. She still gets in these moods where she SCREAMS/SCREECHES for at least 1/2 hr straight. I can hear her a block away. Help!
DO NOT COVER THE CAGE! This will make it WORSE! I’m a bird trainer who specializes in the ‘Toos. Cockatoos will usually make noise for about half an hour in the morning and half an hour at bedtime. That’s normal, but this sounds excessive. To get her to stop, when she starts to scream, get up, turn off all lights (shut shades if it’s sunny) and turn off the TV or any other noise. Leave the room without looking at her or making any noise, and shut the door if you have one. Come back in the room ONLY when she’s been quiet for a full 10 minutes straight.
