Hyacinth macaws are delightfully ntelligent and cab hace the learning capabilities of a five year old and hence need a lot of interaction from thier owners and need lots of toys and may beeven another macaw to keep them from getting bored, mirrors do not fool this bird!
Hyacinth macaws are the rarest of all pet birds and hence are the most expensive. They demand a lot of money for thier care each month, a bill that could run in thousands if you include veterinary bills.
Hyacinth macaws have a very loud call as they are native to forests in South america and hence need calls to penetrate the thick jungle.
Hyacinth macaws should not be kept with smaller birds as they can easily kill them even if they do not mean to, you need to be careful around them and train them well to avoid losing fingers from biting.
They are not affected by feather plucking unlike the cockatoos and hence are a better choice than cockatoos.But they can be as loud as cockatoos if not louder, but generally they are very docile creatures.
Hyacinth macaws should always be bought from a breeder who has spent time training and taming the macaw as they become nearly uncontrollable if not hand tamed due to their size.
Hyacinth macaws need huge cages often several feet wide and long.
