Cockatiel in trouble, please HELP!!!!?
Ive had my Cockatiel now for several months from someone who didn’t want him, he came with a bag of seeds and looked unhealthy. Eventually after consulting with an expert i found out that the seed he came with (the one we had been feeding him) did not have the required nutritional value a Cockatiel needed to survive. I was told he needed a balanced diet in order to live out its full life (which would be less than five years with the food we had for him). So i purchased Vita Prima Cockatiel Formula which contains all of the valuable vitamins and minerals he would need to finally be healthy, but he wont eat it!!! He just sits there next to the seed basket staring at me and calling me to give him food. He doesn’t touch it. Im worried he will soon get sick or worse. But i don’t know how to make him eat the healthy food.
My suggestion is to continue using the old food the bird came with, and gradually add in the new, better stuff you got for him. Gradually start adding more of the good stuff and less of the bad until its only the VPCF you’re feeding him. You could also get vitamins to add to the water. Some fresh veggies wouldn’t hurt either (carrots, cabbage, apple slices, etc), maybe this will cause him to have more interest in other foods.
