my snake has tiny black things in his cage?
my royal python has a water bowl and a big log in his cage with bark chip on the bottom. my problem is when i was feeding him the other day i noticed on his log there was loads of little black mite looking things all over it. I took the log out and poured boiling hot water on it for 48 hours but now i’m worried that these things may be in the bark on the floor or even worse on my snake.
this is my first snake so i’m not really sure what to do next.

Those are snake mites. They came with either your snake or cage furnishings. You need to get rid of them. I have had to deal with them myself occasionally- here’s what works:
-Empty the cage, clean everything, and put the log outside.
-Let the snake soak in a bowl of water, which will kill most of the mites.
-Sprinkle a small amount of Seven dust on the bottom of the cage. It kills mites, and is available at garden stores.
-Put newspaper down for a substrate, on top of the seven dust. Don’t use the wood chips.
-Put the water dish and snake back in, and use a hide box made of plastic or other non-porous material.
By doing all of this, you are minimizing the places that the mites can hide or lay eggs. Even though mites can lay eggs anyplace outside the cage, they must ALWAYS come back to the host to feed, if they are to survive. When they do, the seven will kill them.
Change the newspaper once a week, or when soiled. Replace the seven dust each time.
Maintain this procedure for six weeks. You should be able to get rid of the mites.
