when breeding mice can i keep the male and female in the same cage for the whole precess?
I am starting to breed mice for snake food and i don’t know how to do it. can i keep them in the same cage? how do i know if the females pregnant? can someone help
yes you can keep them in the same cage till the female is rely to give birth. Once you see the female has a big round belly she is not far of giving birth so take the male out as they can be somethings unpredictable about babies.
Once the male and female are in with each other for about a week, the female will most probably be pregnant, that’s assuming they are both at least 2 months old.
Its hard to tell if they are pregnant before the 2nd week, after this time she gets a belly.
don’t worry about any other females being in with the pregnant one as they all help.
The best way to do it is have 2 cages. Put all the females and the male in the one cage and check on them every one or two days.
Once you pick up a female with a large swollen belly put her in the other cage. Soon you’ll have a cage full of females that are full of pregnant and feeding moms and a cage with only a male in it.
