Bird Toys In All Shapes And Sizes

Providing your pet bird with activity need not be expensive. You don’t have to frequent shops that sell pet bird supplies to buy bird toys and keep your bird busy. You will be surprised how things you would otherwise throw away could make your bird occupied and happy. Fill the bird cage with toys without shedding a dollar.

Foraging Toys Why don’t you teach your pet how to forage? There are several foraging bird toys that you can actually make at home. You can use cardboard egg carton to hide nuts, seeds and beads. Or empty cereal boxes filled with treats wrapped in paper. You can hang these together with some untreated tree branches and your bird will surely spend hours foraging. A foraging basket will give hours of fun for your bird, too. This one is really easy to make. Use untreated natural baskets or cardboard boxes for this. Fill them up with paper balls, shredded colored paper, tiny branches, cut up sisal rope, cotton strips, sunflower seeds, nuts with cracked shells, etc. Put a layer of newspaper pieces on top to hide the surprise.

Shredding or Preening Toys Some birds are born shredders and preeners. To prevent your pet from plucking its own feathers, give it toys that can be plucked or preened. Cotton mop heads could be utilized as shredding or preening toys. Hang the mop head near a perch and this will provide hours of play. An old phone book can also be used as a shredding toy. Cut up the books pages but do not tear them from the adhesive. Tie both end pages with a sisal rope and pull together. This will create a fluffy thing that your bird can pluck.

Use your imagination for more ideas of homemade bird toys. You could rummage your attic for old toys and tie them with cotton strings. The possibilities are endless.
