How do you get rid of the little moths that are near the bird cages and bird food?
I found little worms hatching into moths that seem to stay around the parrot food droppings and bags of food. How do you safely rid the area of these moths without harming the parrots?
Seed moths are annoying but mostly harmless. Most seed contains eggs or larvae – no amount of cleaning will remove them. Freeze the food for 48 hours before using it. That will kill any pre-existing moth larvae in the food. Store it in a covered container afterwards, to keep it from being reinfested by the moths you already have. As long as there’s no food for them to lay eggs in, they’ll eventually die off on their own. These moths can also infest your food. If they have, you’ll have to throw it out (or freeze it, if you’re willing to eat dead moth larvae), and keep your food covered until they’re gone.
