The Field Museum Makes Any Vacation Special

Chicago attractions may include the spot of the Great Chicago Fire, which is now a fire department academy, along with the Blues district and places to eat serving the well-known Chicago Style pizza. On the list of top five downtown Chicago attractions, the must see list includes the Sky deck, Shed Aquarium, Adler Planetarium, Museum of Science and Industry, John Hancock Observatory, and the well known Field Museum, which is the present residence of Sue-the Tyrannosaurus Rex.

The Field Museum is an endless experience because of displays, hands-on activities, laboratory tours allowing interactions between scientists and visitors whether they are arranging fossils or extracting DNA. Well-known tours include the Ancient Egyptian tour and the Crown Family Play Lab that has some learning exercises for the kids. Popular displays can include China’s Lost City, Ancient Egyptian Pyramids, Jewels, mummies, Biology 7, and the Underground Adventure to name just a few.

About the most famed Chicago attractions is Sue, thought to be the largest, most complete Tyrannosaurus Rex fossil with her sixty seven million year old skeleton. More than sixteen million guests have shown up since her discovery in 2002, helping to make her the most popular resident at the Field Museum. The Dinosaur Hall display will let you understand the natural environment of dinosaurs. If woolly mammoths are more to your taste, most of these may also be viewed as a part of the Evolving Planet exhibition. The man-eating Lions in Tsalvo are usually included. Through the Evolving Planet, creatures as far back as the ice age can be seen. If you think you are interested in exactly how human beings have survived and developed throughout history, Ancient Americas is good for you. Consider the walk through an 800 year old pueblo dwelling, and encounter daily life precisely as it was in those days, in addition to the items from other historic people.

If silver and jewelry excite you, there is an opportunity to view gems and gold in their rarest form at the Field Museum. Anyone may learn just how gold has been found throughout history. We very often watch documentaries related to artifacts, rare metal, gems, and golden sculptures found from freshly discovered shipwrecks or during archaeological digs, you can now view it close up.

Whether you are interested in the Aztecs, China’s Forbidden City, Skydeck, historical gold and jewelry, architectural breakthroughs, technology, the Ice Age, prehistoric dinosaurs, mammals, avian species, wildlife living or extinct, King Tut, Mummies, ancient Pyramids, Egyptian history as well as other ancient civilizations you will not be let down. Fun movies, 3-D shows, hands-on laboratories for children and family help to make the Field Museum a favorite among Chicago attractions. The Field Museum in Chicago has an online shop with a wide range of products from books to jewelry.

The Field Museum also offers free wheelchairs and babies have their own special baby care stations. Although your meals are offered, the choice is limited, however one can find eateries along with other Chicago attractions nearby. There is a great deal to do and see in the museum and a one-day visit is not really sufficient to get a total experience. The bright side of not seeing everything, with several displays changing regularly, is that you and your family should be able to go back and view the old favorites, new exhibits, as well as those you failed to view during your prior trip. Another reason the museum is one of the most famous Chicago attractions is that it offers tours and other courses for schools and other big groups, along with family tours.
