should i get a jenday or sun conure or a double yellow headed amazon?
i have been researching theese birds for about two years now. I feel like i now everything i need to know and now i want to take action. cost is not a problem. I also considered a some type of cockatoo but they got ruled out. If i could have your opinion that would be great! thanks
Sun and Jenday conures are no different when it comes to behavior. They even look quite similiar. Both make great pets, but are part of a very LOUD group of conures. The screach of these little birds has been known to put macaws to shame. Also note however that every bird listed needs a great amount of attention and will need human interaction for at least an hour to two hours a day, the amazon more like 2-4. I understand you’ve done your research, but nothing out of the manual makes up for the experience of actually owning a bird. From my experience i tell you that without previously owning a bird (not sure if you have), you will most likely regret getting an amazon, and may regret a conure, but since you seem to have planned ahead well, i would still recomend a conure. They have a clowny nature and live to please their owners. They don’t have the talking ability of the amazon but can still learn most of the same tricks (you also don’t have to worry about a horrable amazon bite, though conures can draw blood). If you do take my advice and look more into conures however, i advise you not to be so fixated on the jendays or suns. I’m not sure if pretiness is a factor, but i would recomend a Green Cheek Conure over the two you mentioned because they tend to be much quiter. I own one and he is amazing!!! You can’t go wrong. I assure you, if you can handle the noise, you will not regret any species of conure. Hope this helps!
